Chapter 11 is where we make the first moving surface; the elevator.

All the foam pieces for the canard and elevators. I cut them all at once which in the end was the good thing to do. Lots of people suggest starting with the elevator cores because wasted elevator cores don't ruin as much material as canard cores.

I purchased my metal parts for chapter 11 from the cozy girls. Great quality. The only thing I had to do was lightly use a needle file at the corners being careful not to make the corners to sharp which could potentially initiate a fatigue crack later on.

I filled the hinge hole with vaseline to prevent the infusion of epoxy which would be a pain in the kiester to remove later on.

My friend, Jean-Pierre, bought an expensive tool to make sure that the holes would be drilled correctly in the tubes. I just made a couple of jigs using a hole saw and a drill press. I slide the tube into the jigs which have a hole to accept the drill at the top. This gives lateral support to the drill and prevents it from "wandering". Cheap and effective and no waiting for parts to be shipped from the US to France.

Installing the center torque tube and bellcranks.

Making sure that the elevators are attached at the same angle by using the workbench as a reference. I pretty much followed the plans here.

Another picture of the same. At a higher magnification (by clicking on the picture), you can see the details of how I attached it to the bench using an offset.

Everything installed and ready to check that it has sufficient travel. I ended up having to sand the top of the elevator by the torqe tube and the trailing edge of the canard to get enough travel.
