Well, the email went on its own.   I meant to say that I was NOT an engineer.

I am just quoting a Longeze owner/mechanic that knows FAR MORE about
engines than I will ever know.   He (and I) just run a LARGE diameter flexible
tube (with a cut at the highest point to allow for pressure release in case
of a plugged tube)(and springs inside to prevent tube collapse).   The tube
goes to the trailing edge of the wing.

Oil/air separators are important if the aircraft belly is BEHIND the
engine; you can save cleaning the belly.   The little oil that you
will be losing into the exhaust is insignificant.   I assume that you
check the oil before every flight and change oil often.  The separator
takes up precious space and is useless for pushers.   Save your $$$

The board that actually touches the gear leg is the only board that must be fairly long.
(that is the one that runs vertically in the picture)    ???

If it happens to be something like 12 feet long, you do not need a weight at the end.
(the end AWAY from the airplane)   ;)

If you don't have a board that long, you need an old battery or something heavy to
sit on the end and a couple of small blocks under each end of the weight.    :-\

Be careful; the weight might fall off.    :(

There is a Varieze listed on ebay.  I don't have the number.  I don't want to buy a
Varieze as I have a Longeze.   However I thought others might be interested.  It
lacks some information so I asked the guy to add some.

Hi Gerard

I have one magneto and one of Klaus's EI.  I also have a couple of "Bendix"
switches on the shelf.   I advise you to leave the Bendix on the shelf or
give it to someone who has 2 magnetos.  Separate toggle switches will
run the magneto and the EI.   A pushbutton will run the starter.  BTW  I used
the push button that ASSC calls P/H SPB01 (or a switch from ASSC that
looks just like it).   When I got it, it was much larger than I had anticipated.
I installed it anyway.  It worked for a few years and then quit.  I took it
out and looked at it.   That junk was so corroded I could not believe it.
I have replaced it once just because it fit the hole I had cut in the panel.
If it fails again, I will have to build a new panel, using a different
switch; I don't know which one.

Hi Steve

Mike Stolle (970-858-9740) is the CSA State Representative; you could
call him; he should know everyone who has a flying airplane.   He had a Longeze
but I believe he sold it.

Mark Davis (303-441-2912) has a Longeze in Boulder and
Ion Huss (303-440-3579) has a Longeze in Boulder.

Maurice Eastburn (303-692-9626) has a Varieze in Denver.

Terry Hart (unlisted phone) has a Cozy in Erie.

Burrall Sanders is at Meadowlake airport in Falcon; he always has a few airplanes around.

There are about 12 flying canards in Colorado so you should have no trouble.
If you join the CSA you will have a directory of all of them.

Hi Joel

You need to call Terry Yake (913-451-8904)(Kansas CSA) and
Joe Rosa (314-878-5853)(Missouri CSA)  to get help.  Both
are great guys and are state representatives of CSA.   There
are at least 10 canard airplanes in MO and 5 in KS.

Also check out the CSA (see the home page of this web site).
The members will be a great resource.

Also check with Steve Beert at 563-381-4702 to talk canard stuff.   
He is in IA.

Call Curt Smith at 618-531-7190.  He is in IL.  Curt is a CFI in case
you want a lesson in canard flying.

Also the Cozy Girrrls live somewhere around there.  Don't have a
# for them but you will see emails posted on canard-aviators@yahoogroups.com
from Chrissi.  They have a website because they sell a lot of great parts for us.
CGParts.com, I think.

Hi Drew

I am south of the Seattle area.   I know very little about aerodynamics
and less about building.  I do have a Longeze project.   Some have
said it is not airworthy and never will be.   well I disagree on both of
those opinions.    So, if you want to drop by Yelm, I can show/tell
you a lot of things that damaged my reputation. 

There are many who ARE experts.  Joe Person for one.   Also Tom Staggs
and many others.  However they are still making a living and I have time
to talk.  Just don't think I know anything.

I have a zillion back issues of the CSA newsletter that you can look at
IN my shop.  No loans.

I also have a 30 minute speech in my computer on canard pushers.

I have an old (1946) Ercoupe that I had hoped to rebuild.  Now I may
sell it to a neighbor instead.  He wants a project.  However I don't
know what to ask; I don't want to ask too little.

I can give tons of details but maybe it should be done offline.   You can

If I don't hear from anyone soon, I will give lots of details here.

Is there someone who does appraisals for a fee?

Be extremely cautious about making ANY changes to the plans.
I made very small changes to a Longeze and have been working
on it forever.   Any changes and you will NEVER finish.

You have to get FAA approval before you can fly it.   I am
currently hung on that.   I have an airplane that could be
flown but it cannot be flown legally.  It may never fly.

There are approximately 8 Cozies in Florida.   I don't know which
are close to you.    Try calling Jack Fehling who is the FL state
