For Sale/Wanted / Light Speed Engineering Gear Leg Fairings
« on: December 14, 2007, 02:22:53 PM »
I am selling a  set of Klaus Savier main gear leg fairings for a Varieze equipped with a NACA scoop and Longeze gear. I conveniently over looked the NACA scoop part and therefore can't use them.

They are brand new. No cuts, trims or anything.

LSE sells these for $695 plus shipping. In order to return them, I would have to pay a restocking fee plus shipping. I can sell them for $575 plus shipping and not lose any more money and you would come out way ahead.

Picture is available and installation instruction on the LSE website.

I couldn't find anything on the website about airplane batteries. Some very pretty position lights, but no batteries.

Hangar Flying / Stuff for sale
« on: March 26, 2007, 04:54:34 PM »
Pardon me for posting this here, but since the classfieds are still down I thought you might not mind.

I have posted on ebay a Great American 58X70 prop and the associated Brock Spinner. Neither has ever flown. It is a lovely prop.

Also, I have not posted but have for sale an engine mount for a Lycoming O-235 - Dynafocal- I don't know if it would fit any other engine.  It has never flown either.

All are old, but well cared for and in great shape.

Hangar Flying / curious about weight reduction
« on: October 10, 2006, 10:31:05 AM »
The project that I am finishing is 30 years old so a lot of the stuff that I have is the original type.

Just out of curiosity, what new or updated stuff (wheels? brakes? etc.) could I change out and save a few pounds? I know it all costs money, but who knows, some of it I may be able to afford.
One example, I am getting rid of my original spinner for a smaller composite one and saving considerable weight where it counts.

Hangar Flying / VEZE on Ebay
« on: July 18, 2006, 11:43:18 AM »
There is a Varieze on ebay with corrosion in a wing attach plate. the seller says he has new attach plates that can be installed.

I thought this was impossible.  Am I mistaken?

Hangar Flying / here's a stupid question on fuel systems
« on: June 20, 2006, 11:54:28 AM »
Is it ok to use soft aluminum 3/8 od fuel line from a bulkhead fitting to a gascolator or boost pump on the engine side of the firewall?

Electricity, I can do... fuel is giving me problems.

Hangar Flying / air box
« on: January 18, 2006, 09:26:38 AM »
I just purchased an airbox from Don Jones. He spent a lot of time developing it and flys it on his O-200 Varieze.Give him a shout and ask him about it. They are made out of carbon fiber, and are very easy to assemble and weigh next to nothing.  You can contact him at You can see pictures at his web site:

Hangar Flying / throttle body
« on: January 06, 2006, 10:24:55 AM »
Actually, a lot of folks are using an Ellison on a Varieze without a fuel pump. Gary Hertzler recently told me that he does. He said that you have to make sure the vent is well outside of the boundry layer and change the control cables to push/pull type which requires modifying the throtlle quadrant.

I need the same thing. Thanks for asking.

Hangar Flying / allen valve
« on: September 12, 2005, 12:35:06 PM »
I just replaced mine last week and the Allen Valve is working great. Much smoother and easier to turn. It wasn't a lot of trouble as it just bolts into the same holes. The biggest problem was getting the universal joint to fit and get everything lined up.
