I built/own a Long EZ, so I may be biased.  I would suggest that the Long is a better match for the majority.  40% more wing area, designed around the Lycoming instead of Continental, roughly twice the fuel capacity, better wing attach (my opinion) method, better resale value, Burt said starter is OK.

If you are ever in the STL area when we have VFR weather and can get our schedules together, I would be happy to give you a ride.  WARNING - very few in your position that I have given rides to have been able to turn their backs on the canard design.  :-)

I use the modified Craftsman 1/4" ratchet on my nosegear mechanism.  It has served me well.  I can't remember for sure, but believe that Curt Smith sold the product originally.

I googled to find a link for Vance's gages and found an old post of mine on post #11 here - http://www.homebuiltairplanes.com/forums/firewall-forward-props-fuel-system/4902-sight-glass-fuel-indicator.html  The email address there is still a good one for Vance.  On August 23rd, he posted that he will be out of touch for three weeks.  Email him after that time for more info on his gages.  The link above has a link that shows how James Redmon did the gage installation in his Grand Champion Berkut.
