Hangar Flying / Re: Fuel vent
« on: October 02, 2010, 07:55:06 PM »
I think a hole in the cap would be a VERY bad idea; it would suck gas out.  :'(

I though everyone had 2 vent lines for each tank.  One is at the high point
when the nose is down, the other is at the high point when the aircraft is
horizontal.  Was in the CPs.

Hi Bill

The CSA should be able to help.  There are about 15 CSA members in VA.
8 of them have flying airplanes.  I don't know which towns are in the
valley.  Try calling Fred Wimberly in Arlington.   His # is 703-979-2483.
or use fwimberly@comcast.com

If you can get a ride in a Cozy, that is a little better.  Ask Fred about
Tim Freeze or call 540-569-6628

Hi Mike

You committed the sin so common on this website; You did not say where you live.
Give us that information and we probably can get some help to you.   If you just
give the state, the CSA probably has a state representative for you.   You DO
belong to CSA don't you?   It is the best $30 you will spend on aviation.   You will
get a directory of 736 members (and some have joined since the directory went
to press) .   And you get 4 newsletters/year.

Good luck on finding the problem.

Call Bob Sudderth at 903-569-3028.   He lives far from Killeen but he should know
someone who lives close by.   He is the CSA representative for Texas and a really
nice guy.

Are you a CSA member?  If you join, you will soon get the 2010 directory plus the
Jan. Apr. and July newletters.   For details see the home page of this website.  Best
$30 you will spend on  airplanes

I don't know the location of some Texas towns so it is hard to pick any other contact.
Is Bedford, Crowley, Lago Vista, Spicewood, Lindsey, Roanoke, Caddo Mills, or Cresson
near you?

It looked like there was only one wheel on the gear bow.   There must have been another
wheel flying somewhere.

Hi All

I would like to add a little to your excellent description:   The pilot started his
pull up around 0.13 or 0.14 min.   He obviously was too slow to go around at
0.26.   The difference is 0.13 or 0.14 min or 8 seconds.   Part of the pilots
rule of "Fly the Airplane" is "Watch your airspeed".   His engine was running;
he could have gone around.  Messing around with the airbrake and the nose
gear damaged a good airplane.

Watch your airspeed!

Hi Justen

The CSA state representative for Oklahoma is Lowell Dodson.   Call him at 918-231-7079
He is in Tulsa.   There are 2 other members in Tulsa, 1 in Lawton, 1 in Moore, and 1 in
Stillwater.   You should know those guys.   Ask Lowell who they are and how to reach
them (the CSA directory has all of them listed).   They will know more about the way
that the FAA for your area works.   Possibly one of them may be an FAA employee; I
know a FAA guy who is building a Cozy (but not in OK).

For info on CSA, see the home page of this website.

Where do you live or have the aircraft.   That info may be important.

Hi

I know almost nothing about Variezes but I know people that might help.
If you send us your email address, we may be able to communicate directly
instead of using this website.  You likely will get straighter answers.

Hangar Flying / Re: another noobie in love with questions
« on: July 27, 2010, 07:54:27 AM »
Hi Eric

There are 7 CSA members in UT, I think.  They are in Hooper, Sandy (2), Central Valley,
Heber City, Ogden and Logan.  The 8th listing is Aziz Musa, a guy who has moved.

The info on CSA is in the homepage of this website.   Or you can just send $30 to
Terry Schubert at 9283 Lindbergh Blvd, Olmsted Falls, Ohio 44138-2407

You can also communicate by:  JSCHUBER@ JUNO.COM   No, don't add the T for Schubert
in the email address.

You will get the Jan., April, and July newsletters plus the directory.   He also has back issues.
I think those are the same price?   When I joined I got a year of back issues.   There is
also a listing of articles on a website but I don't know how to access that.

Terry does this kinda like a business.   There IS a board of directors but everyone is
so happy with the newsletter that we just hope he continues forever.....    Anyway
when he pays for paper, ink, stamps, etc. he makes something like $1 per hour or less
for his work.A lot of the members once chipped in some $$ to buy him a more capable
computer.

When you send a check, make it out to him.  Legally he is the editor, but CSA is  just
a legal framework, I guess.

There certainly may be more canard pusher guys in UT that are not CSA members.
They probably are not very active either.  I don't understand not being a CSA member
but I do know 2 guys who are not members.

Dana Byerley was trying to sell a Longeze.  May be sold already.  He lives in Sandy.
Really nice guy who is more crazy about cars than airplanes.   Call him at
801-943-1005.   Tell him I sent you.

Hangar Flying / Re: what to look for when buying an ez
« on: July 16, 2010, 08:45:36 AM »

Contact Bill Oertel.   He stays pretty busy but maybe you will get lucky.
He makes a living repairing canard airplanes and is EXPERT.   You NEED him.
Paying him for advice will save you money and headaches in the end.
909-738-8300    He is in Chino.

Also David Orr keeps lists on canards for sale.   He charges 3% as a finder's
fee if you use his information.

Be VERY careful in buying homebuilt airplanes.   There are a LOT of mistakes
that can be made.   Some mistakes are quite dangerous.     I made a mistake
on making my rudder/brake cables and would have lost one rudder (either side)
if I had applied the brakes VERY hard.   I did that when I saw sitting still so
I found out the easy way.    Those are now fixed but how do you know
when you buy a plane that someone else built?

Hangar Flying / Re: Varieze as 1st owned aircraft?
« on: July 16, 2010, 08:33:02 AM »
OK,  Here are 3 names of guys you need to check:  Ken Ashton (704-784-1874),
Alex Becker (248-396-7944), and Greg Fowler (919-562-1739).   All 3 have Cozys.
Greg's is a smaller Cozy, which would be better, I guess, for simulating the
Longeze.   I don't know how well it simulates the Varieze.

Alex Becker is the CSA "state representative" for NC.   All of the state reps are
very helpful guys.

I don't know who is a CFI AND owns a Cozy, other than Curt Smith in Illinois and
Burrall Sanders in Colorado.

BEFORE you buy anything you should check with the 3 guys in NC.   Maybe they
know someone who can inspect the varieze AND lives nearby.   If the varieze is
close to New York, you can contact Ken Miller.   If it is closer to Tennessee,
contact Valerie Harris.   Their phone numbers are in the CSA directory which you
should have by now.    You DID join, didn't you?   Best $30 you will spend on
airplanes.....

See the home page for more on CSA.
